The Jane Cox Story
My name is Jane Cox.  I am from Columbiana, Alabama and attend Columbiana United Methodist Church. I was part of team 2 of 5 Alabama teams that went to Honduras during the Summer of 2001. For quite some time, I have had what my pastor regularly describes as a “PASSION” for missions. The stories from teams who have gone before me and the fire that God has put in my heart for missions is what led me to Honduras.  The people that God put in my path
while I was there is what will lead me back to Honduras.
I knew that I would enjoy being on a mission trip to Honduras - what I was not prepared for is the truly life-changing experience that it has been.  The people in Honduras are the most gracious people I have ever met.  They are glad for us to be there and they are grateful for everything that we do, but most of all they are wonderful TEACHERS.  They taught me a whole lot about life.  For the most part, the people that we came in contact with are very happy people, even though they have nothing.
You would never know that they have nothing, because they are so full of love and life.  I, like so many of the others, could not speak ANY Spanish to speak of - but God takes care of that.
A smile and a loving touch is understood by everyone.  I will never go to the sink and draw a cup of water, get in my car to run to the mall, relax in the A/C, in my living room, next to a kitchen full of food or go to the Doctor whenever I need to without thoughts of Honduras.
I surely will never throw out leftover food again without thoughts of  “THE DUMP” in La Ceiba.
My first trip has really made me question - WHY do I have so much and these people have so little ?  It just does not seem to make sense to me.  I will probably never have the answer to that, but I have no doubt that God sent me to Honduras to humble me and to very clearly give me a path to follow and to show me that I am indeed supposed to share my blessings with others.
Our team was one of the teams that divided and worked Medical clinics AND construction.  We worked on a building to house a Woodworking School in Plan de Flores.  God truly blessed me both by giving me the ability to work on a construction team and putting the children of Plan de Flores in my path. The children were as gracious as the adults and had more love to give than you can believe.  They have nothing to call their own - you can only imagine the response to small gifts and candy that we took to them.  The school supplies delivered to the schools were received as the blessing that they were.  It is my prayer, that with God’s guidance, we will return to Plan de Flores in 2002 and continue work and make some additions to the Woodworking School - and see my new friends again.
Two other team members and I are sponsoring two children (Edwin and Yormani) from Plan de Flores. To say that God has changed our lives by knowing and loving these children is an understatement. These are only two of VERY many children in Honduras in need of support.  Under "HISTORY" on this web site, see how you can help.
Judy Camp said at our “Survival Party” that she eats, sleeps and lives Honduras.  I can relate - I do too.  These wonderful people are never far from my mind and are constantly in my prayers.  That is the part I was not prepared for.
God is good all the time - Dios es bueno todo el tiempo!!!
