Kid’s Christmas in Honduras ’10 - From front page
1. If you would like to send personal Christmas gifts to individuals, families or organizations, you need to bring these to our warehouse in Curry, Alabama, on our preloading date (October 23, 2010). Your items must be manifested at this time in order to clear Honduran customs. For fully paid AHMEN members there is no container shipping charge for these items. If you are not a paid AHMEN member you may send items to specified individuals at a charge of $2.25 per cubic foot. If you need directions to the warehouse or any other information about the shipment of items on the container, contact Ivan Greene, the Warehouse Manager and Container Committee Supervisor at greenei@bellsouth.net by email or by phone at 205-669-9279.
2. A second way that you might want to assist in this effort is to encourage your Church, Sunday School Class or small group to participate in the AHMEN Shoe Box Program. This program allows you, your children or group to send small toys, hygiene items and/or school supplies for needy children in Honduras. You will have the opportunity to mark each box as to the gender and age of the child for whom the shoe box gift is intended. You are asked to donate an additional $3 per shoe box to cover the cost of distribution. This program has been very popular in the past and is administered by Rev. Ray Crump of Decatur, Alabama. You are asked to contact Ray directly at RayLCr@aol.com or Rev. Dale Capron atd_capron@bellsouth.net for further details.
3. There is another “Shoe Box” Program that is new for this Christmas. For the last two years, AHMEN has partnered withSoles4Soles to provide nearly 3000 pairs of brand new shoes for needy people in Honduras This year we would like to extend this program and offer you the opportunity to help us. A donation of only $5 will allow us to send a pair of new shoes as a Christmas gift to a child in need in Honduras. I have attached a flyer for you to use should you want to encourage others to participate in this program.
There is a group option to this “Shoe Box” Program. If your Sunday School Class or small group would like to send 40 or more pairs of new shoes, you can elect to designate where the shoes are to go. Locations are limited to those areas where Cruzadas has a presence. For information on this, contact Guf and Mary Guffey at hjguffey@earthlink.net.
4. You are invited to donate whatever amount of money that you want to our Christmas Food Drive for Honduras. Nearly every day of every week, people come to one of the Cruzadas Churches to ask for food for their families. These are people in dire need. Sister Eleanor has asked that this year we send basic food items such as rice, beans and canned milk on the Christmas Container for distribution to these people. For every $1.00 donated, $.90 will go to purchase bulk food items and $.10 will go to defray distribution costs.
5. Or you, your family, church or small group may elect to collect your own food items, new shoes or clothing, and toys and send these for general distribution through the Christmas Container Program. As long as these items are for general distribution, there is no container charge. But these items will need to be marked as to their content and brought to the pre-loading to be included on the customs manifest.
Every time we send a forty foot container, we pay an average of $4,000 for the transportation, customs and delivery costs of the container. The Christmas Container is not a team related activity. It is totally dependent upon individual contributions. Please consider helping us with this Christmas Container.
All cash donations should be sent to the AHMEN financial secretary at:
