Preliminary
itinerary and description
1)
the trip will be 12 days, those that choose can
do 10 days and skip item 7
2) the
dates will be sometime in the first 20 days of
April, adjusted the meet as many schedules as possible
and get the lowest airfares available.
3)
we spend one entire day in La Ceiba at the
Garafuna office counting and packaging pills
and medicine.
4)
we will attempt to use the air service to eliminate
an entire day of travel, if this is not feasible
we will have a very long (early departure and late
arrival) day of travel to Palacios. (a forced march
much like Battan)
4)
we plan on 5 days of clinic. 2 in each village
of our choice (by group consensus) and
one in an entirely new village. This can change
though.
5)
one day will be set aside for "variables" (rain,
breakdowns, etc.)
6)
two days will be allotted for travel back
to San Pedro Sula although we can make
it in one if it becomes necessary (its a 12
hour trip under perfect conditions, again much
like Battan) The tenth day will be the airport
day for those leaving and a travel/rest day
for those continuing on.
7)
all those interested will be invited to visit a
point of interest for strictly recreational and
educational purposes (Copan, Santa Barbabra,
Santa Rosa, Roitan or ?) this will be
an added individual expense, although if funds
are available the transportation may be group provided.
(sometimes I can get "free days" on the trucks
if I rent enough, this is a "maybe" though)
8)
anyone with ideas, suggestions, or misgivings are
encouraged to reply.
9)
I am going to estimate an $800.00 cost for the
first ten days all inclusive (food, lodging, transportation,
water) except personal expenditures (sodas,
snacks amusements etc.) PLUS airfare.
the educational/recreational two days will be extra
and will run about 50 dollars a day on the low
end.
Remember,
our Honduran Docs, Dentists and Helpers ride for
free, and we include them in everything, except
the educational/recreational experience, its a
rule.
The
order and day to day procedures of the clinics
will be left to group discussion and direction,
however the final word will rest the group leaders.
Thru
donations to CHIMES we will purchase approx enough
medicines to make the trip a success.
Everyone
one will be encouraged to bring 50 pounds of Vitamins,
Pain/fever reducers, or other such medicinal extras
as they can have donated or purchase at their own
expense, and shiped to Honduras, usually $25.00
extra baggage fee. ( for a list of desired
and appropriate medicines contact Bud@sbcglobal.net )
Jesus
and I will arrive one day early to make the final
arrangements in country and meet the group at the
airport. This saves time and eliminates some variables
and a minute amount of confusion.
Anyone
interested is encouraged to contact Bud or Jesus
as soon as possible so we can start making arrangements.
As soon as we receive conformation and nominal
deposits ( say $200.00) from at least 4
persons (including at least one Doc) we will start
making reservations.
