The girls (of Shalom) are doing well. Due to the
teachers being on strike, some of the girls are not able to go
to school as often as they used to. Suyappa and I went downtown
yesterday and we purchased 2 of the girls new undergarments because
they really had nothing. They were so thrilled to have new panties
and bras! I don't think that the girls are too happy with me
right now because Sunday I made all of them help me detail the
kitchen from top to bottom. It was in desperate need of a clorox cleaning! I
asked Joe Jones to help me by purchasing plastic bins so
that the girls have something to store their rice, flour and
beans in so that the cockroaches and ants stay away. I
am trying to teach them things that will benefit their health
and cockroaches in your flour is not healthy! After
we cleaned the kitchen, I had them remove everything and
I set off 2 foggers later that evening. I awoke the next morning
to what appeared to be a war zone. Raid won. Cockroaches
lost. The progress of the roof is really coming along. Joe,
Dan and Tim have almost finished replacing the entire roof.
It looks awesome! No more leaks! Oh! Two days ago, when
they started, Tim fell through the roof! He was saved by Jenny's
bunk bed! Had that bed not been there, he would have been
in for quite a fall!
As for other activities going on, I created a questionnaire
for the girls to fill out. It has about 12 questions asking a
little bit about each girl so that we can get to know them better.
They are working on getting those to me by the end of the week.
Not only does it help us, but it also makes them practice their
English. I edited the first set of letters to their sponsors
and I patiently await their revisions. This evening the girls
are going to church so I will be taking individual pictures of
them to match with the information they filled out on the sheet.
Just be patient with me and I will get all this information to
you as soon as possible. Doris and Brent came to the compound yesterday
and we all went out to dinner with Joe and his team. Tomorrow
Brent is coming to pick me up at 10:00 am and I am going
to Utilia with them to spend the weekend on the island!
I am really looking forward to it.
