Someone asked me: Who are The Bradys? Well let me begin to tell you. May ‘09

Brent and Doris Brady are AHMEN’s very own Coordinators in Honduras. They split their time between Utila, La Ceiba, and USA.  We were lucky to have them “fall into our lap”, first as occasional team members and interpreters, then as our Warehouse Supervisors in Honduras, and now as our AHMEN Coordinators in Honduras.

They are a wealth of information and help:

Doris is native Honduran, lived her adult life in N.Y working with the World Band, and now retired to work “full time with AHMEN”.

Brent is native to USA, but spent his youth in South America, his adult life in N.Y. working in Hotel management, now retired to work “full time with AHMEN” in Honduras.

When you get a chance, make a point to meet them.  They are great, have totally changed our effectiveness in Honduras, totally changed our warehouse operations in Honduras, and are able to bridge the gap for our teams between the two cultures.  They have now been on so many teams I can’t keep up with the number.  They are fluent in Spanish and English and beginning to learn some Garifuna.

Additional traits:
Doris smart, attractive, and has wonderful empathy.
Brent smart, not so “pretty as Doris”, and has wonderful empathy.
Both love Honduras, USA, helping people, and AHMEN.

One of my favorite stories is how we came to “hire” them. They were very good friends with Larry Pitts, working, playing, and sometime living with him. Actually Larry lived sometime with them. They always had a bed, meal, and friendly welcome for Larry. Larry introduced the Brady’s to AHMEN and his work as our warehouse supervisor in Honduras. After Larry died, Brent called me and told me he and Doris would like Larry’s job. Since there were two of them, I thought it appropriate we double Larry’s salary. (0 X 2 = 0). After some tough negotiations they agreed to the warehouse supervisor position. Over the next couple of months it became pretty obvious God had given us “two jewels” to replace the one He took from us.

If you have questions about AHMEN, La Ceiba, Honduras, culture, getting along with folks, or just about anything else, they are the ones to go to.

This past year they “budded up” with Sister Eleanor, bunches of Cruzado folks, and The Livingston United Methodist Church to hold a week of Evangelism on the Island of Utila. Shortly after that, Brianna White lead a team from Christ United Methodist Church to Utila under their supervision for a week of Island Medicine and Education for the youth of the local schools.

This year the Bradys will again lead the same teams to Utila. In addition, they have masterminded the unloading and organization of the supplies send down last month on AHMEN’s spring container. They are already scheduled to go with several AHMEN the teams to various parts of Honduras. They have also jumped right in and sponsored a girl at Shalom.

I can’t begin to describe how they have impacted AHMEN’s work in Honduras.
When you see them, give them both a big “hug” and a hand shake. They are great.
They also make great friends, many of the AHMEN folks are lucky to call them friends!
