Evangelistical Report from the June 12-June
28, Alpha and Omega Livingston Chapel Teams to Utila, led by
Bucket Guthrie, April Burgess and Stephanie Wright.
God is an Awesome God and merciful to allow us to be a part
of what he is doing. By far the best part of the success for
this trip was having 54 people confess Jesus Christ as their
Lord and Savior. To our knowledge, all these were first time
commitments and ranged in age from 15 to 75 years old, with a
large portion of them being men. Here are a few of the comments
made by some of the new Christians shortly after they were saved:
“I was expecting it to be hard; I didn’t know it
would be this easy!”
“I have not been at the right place, at the right time
to be saved before now.”
After the needs of the people were met with health and eye care
they were given the opportunity to share their personal prayer
requests. Many of those we counseled were “ripe and ready.” Some
said; “I’ve been thinking about it.” We shared,
that if they had been thinking about it, then God was already
at work in their lives and drawing them to His mighty love. The
saved shared their prayer requests as well and we prayed about
many different kinds of needs. Most were concerned about their
country and the island of Utila and requested that we have our
friends at home to remember them in prayer. Some had stone walls
which were turned into tender hearts right before our eyes. There
were many tears of joy and tears of release. (Honestly, I have
never had so much fun in all my life.) Sadly, many churches do
not see 50-something converts in years; and God blessed Utila
with 54 (known-more unknown) in two weeks! There were more rededications
than we could keep up with. And, sadly there were also those “so
close, yet so far away.” Sis. Eleanor shared with me last
year – and I quote “Brenda, all the help physically
is wonderful but the best thing anyone can receive is Jesus.” How
right she is. Every team member, volunteer, and prayer warrior
contributed to the tremendous success in Utila. Some of us went
not really knowing what part we would play; but God didn’t
take long to reveal our job descriptions. One man (whose picture
I am sharing, before and after) actually became a team member
and had devotions with us every day after he gave his life to
Jesus. In the first picture he talks with Pastor Dale and Matt.
Through Matt’s sharing of himself, Nandito became a Christian
and asked to help carry the cross through the town of Utila.
He is shown here in the white shirt at the back. Someone yelled
from the street “you should be the one on that Cross!” Nandito
replied, “I wish I had, but I’m not worthy.” That,
my friend, is the testimony.
