The
Project Honduras Conference
organized by Marco Caceres is a
fantastic networking tool for organizations working in Honduras. The
website for Project Honduras is: http://projecthonduras.com/conference/ . The
Conference on Honduras 2009 will take place in Copán Ruinas
during September 24-26, 2009 at the Municipal Conference
Center beside the town's central plaza. The event will be
presented byprojecthonduras.com and
sponsored by Special
Missions Foundation of
Georgetown, TX, a 501 (c) (3) organization. The
focus of the conference is education, healthcare (including
HIV/AIDS and clean water), and community building (including
micro-credit and caring for orphaned children). The aim is
to present and exchange information on current and proposed
grassroots projects to empower the people of Honduras. We
want to figure out how to improve and expand these efforts,
as well as inspire people to go out and get involved. The
focus theme of our tenth annual conference is Mobilizing
the Youth of Honduras to Change the Country. Casa
de Todo is
homebase for the Conference on Honduras in Copán
Ruinas. It is located two blocks from the Municipal Conference
Center, where the conference is held. Casa de Todo is owned
and managed by Sandra
Guerra, who is the director of the conference in town.
If you need local assistance with arranging lodging and transport,
e-mail or call her at (504) 651-4315. We
are also grateful to Dennis
Flores and Dilcia
Arriaga of Maya
Temple Tours in
San Pedro Sula for helping arrange transportation services
and lodging accommodations. You can e-mail or call them at
(504) 509-0555 or (504) 556-9457. The toll free number for
calls from the US is (877) 467-1692. We advise that reservations
be made at least two months in advance of the conference. Guf
and Mary Guffey and Brent and Doris Brady represented AHMEN
last year. We
are hoping some folks from AHMEN will want to go again. If
you are interested, it would be invaluable to AHMEN. Hopefully,
Doris and Brent will join you in representing AHMEN at this
year’s conference. There will be hundreds of folks
there who have all sorts of projects in Honduras—clinics,
orphanages, and schools as well as agricultural and reforestation
projects.
