The “It’s a God Thing” Team, headed by ‘Bucket’ Guthrie and the Livingston Chapel Methodist Church has traveled to the Bay Islands of Honduras for the past two years.  The main station has been on the island of Utila, with one-day clinics to Pigeon Cay.  The first year was spent on the medical and eye clinics; but perhaps the main ministry for that year was to orientate the team to the local culture by getting to know the people of the island and developing a mutual, respectful bond between the team and the people.  We ate where they ate; we walked where they walked; we worshiped where they worshipped; and, we became friends by being friendly.

The difference between the first visit to Utila and the 2009 mission trip can best be described as “A God Thing.”  I am at a lost for a human explanation to what happened on the island of Utila from June 11 – 26, 2009.  God initiated and carried out His purpose.

(That purpose included 54 persons accepting the Love of God through Jesus Christ.)

Many lives were changed. The AHMEN mission family realizes the tremendous work being done in Honduras by many different – yet united – teams.   Nothing can dispute the benefits you all have seen as a by-product of your ministry in mission.  There has been “that moment” for each of us when we have said to ourselves, “YES, this is what it is all about!”

A Mission Team is about “Being” as much or more so; than “Doing.”  We do that by using what we have been given.  The call of a missionary is the first step toward that service.  Then we must recognize the talents God has given us; and USE them.  The work of a missionary involves three things: AHMEN knows the Master; AHMEN has a method of outreach (medical-eye-construction-education-Evangelism-etc.).  AHMEN knows the Mission; which is to ultimately help lives be changed permanently by the Love of God. 1.  Know the Master   2.  Know the Method  3.  Know the Mission.
