God’s Work, Brenda’s Role, and Utila Summer ‘09
How can I say this and you get the full meaning of what I am
about to say? AHMEN’s work in Utila
...the trip to Utila
this year was the most fulfilling thing that I have ever experienced.
It answered a lot of things for me about myself. I clearly know
what my passion is now, and just got a glimpse - little taste
- of what it means to be heaven bound. Being a part of helping
54 people to find Jesus as Lord and Savior in two weeks makes
It's mighty hard to sit in my chair at work now because this
is not where my heart is, but it is the means to the end. One
man told me "I've never been at
the right place at the right time to learn what I needed to know
about Jesus." I think - "how many times have we (living
in a free land with a church on every corner) been at the right
place at the right time, and still don't know what we need to
know about Jesus because self-righteousness gets in the way?" On
my first mission trip, I was an observer of other people ministering.
The second mission trip I was the explorer with camera in hand
capturing the negative side of people and the living conditions
for many in a third world country - visiting the dump was the
highlight of that trip. But on the third trip to Honduras in
June '09, I saw the people's heart condition; not their living
arrangements. Each one had a story and needed an ear. By the
time they passed through the medical clinic and/or received glasses
they were very eager to listen to what God has done, can do and
will do. I'll always be grateful to Sis. Eleanor for telling
me - amongst my tears after visiting the dump - "Brenda,
there is nothing you can do for these people that would be better
than giving them Jesus." Those conditions will remain for
many long after you and I are gone. However, God -very mercifully,
let's us be a part of His work in Honduras. What could be better
than trading rags (sin) for riches (heaven)?
:) Brenda
