The Book Boat
Some of us remember the old Book Mobile. How about a Book-Boat?
Here is
how it got started. Last year a library was set up in Battaya, Honduras.
When the big flood came, Jesus’ niece, Julia, moved the books
to higher ground and simply set the library up in Pueble Neuvo. That
was fine with the folks at Puelbe Neuvoe, but when the floods recessed,
the Battaya folks wanted their library back. En Route back to Battaya,
she stopped for a couple of days in Plapaya. Yep, the folks there
wanted a library also. Her solution? ---- The Book-Boat.
Here is how it works: she simply loads the books in a canoe, and travels to each
village to set the library up for 2 days each.
Report from Jesus and Bud re. the use of the Garifuna libraries from April ‘09
Not only is the book boat a big success, but they report all the libraries are
up and running. The school is making the most use of the books, with some activity
from adults.
The librarians are looking forward to the library seminar being planned for the
Aug ’09 team. They are also looking forward to maps and new books. If you
