A Library for Garifina Update

I think it is time for me to send you guys an update on where we stand with
the libraries for the Garifina Communities. Plans:
1. a library in each or most villages extending from Limon to Pueblo Neuvo.
We have enough money for 9 libraries.

2. The books will be delivered to Tegu sometime mid-summer.

3. The Tegu Rotary Club and Rev. Carl Dickerson will sort the books.

4. Jesus Cacho will set up a relationship in each of the designated
villages with a "librarian" or a local teacher.
Part of this will be that the village is responsible for the building and
any salary for the librarian. They will use schools, community buildings,
and libraries.

5. Jesus Cacho and Rev. Carl Dickerson and ???? will rent a truck, pick up
" our" books and deliver them to the various libraries.

6. Dr. Tom Arnold and myself will go down in Sept to reevaluate the
libraries and the librarians.

7. Villages designated "for sure" are:
Limon
Icotea
Cosuna
Ciriboya
Peublo Neuvo
Tocomachu
this leaves us 3 more Garifina Villages to pick for libraries. Since Jesus
is our Honduran Coordinator, she will be primarily responsible for picking
the other 3 villages. We do welcome input from any of you on this e-mail
listing.

8. Dr. and Mrs. Joel Edwards have designated, funded, and will dedicate the
Libraries in Limon and Icotea to their grandchildren Lindy and Nate Taylor.

9. Rev. Carl Dickerson has recommended we ask Megan Gregory, a peace corps
worker from Central America to come and help us set the libraries up. She
has done this before, including giving the librarians a seminar in "how to
run a Library". Carl is talking to Megan at this time to check on the cost
of her airline, etc. So far we do not have funding for this part of the
project.

10. Linda Edwards has started asking each person who goes to Honduras on any
team to take one Spanish book with them and add to the libraries.

11. One of the jobs of the librarian in the village is to ask each family
who has a member in the USA to purchase a Spanish book and send to one of us
for shipping to Honduras to hel with the self perpetuation of the libraries.

10. We are funded for everything else unless we have something unexpected
come up.

So, this is an update and I will keep you posted.

If you have any ideas, input, etc please feel free to reply to me or to
Jesus Cacho or Rev. Carl Dickerson.

If you have anyone who wants to be part of this with prayers, money, or
ideas just let me know. If we do get any more money, it seems to me the
best use would be for Megan to come and help set up the libraries. I will
let you know once Carl talks to Megan to see if she is interested and how
much the airline ticket, expenses would be.

Also, if any of you would like to be part of the actual hands on picking up
the books in Tegu, delivering, and setting up the libraries please let me
know. Both Carl and Jesus say they could use some help.

Vaya con Dios,
Tom Camp
