an intensive 10-day field training in food and nutrition.
Are you a grass-roots community worker, university student,
missionary, development organization worker or someone who wants
to learn how to make a difference in meeting the needs of a hungry
world? If so, join us in learning practical skills to address
hunger and malnutrition in the developing world.
You can participate in a 10-day Field Study Course sponsored
by SIFAT, the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the Sparkman
Center for Global Health held on SIFAT’s international
campus near Lineville, Ala., May 27-June 7.
During this session, you will
* Learn about rooftop gardening
* Maximize family nutrition from a small garden
* Make simple solar cookers
* Prepare leaf concentrates used to treat malnourished children
* Use simple technologies for clean water and sanitation
* Build fuel-efficient cookstoves
* See microenterprise ideas
* Learn to preserve foods and “refrigerate” without electricity
While learning these practical skills, you will also deepen
your understanding of world hunger and community development
through participatory activities.

We are partnering with several instructors for this training
including:
* Dr. Martin Price, ECHO
* Dr. Larry Winiarski, inventor of the Rocket Stove, Aprovecho
* Dave Kennedy, M.A., founder of Leaf for Life
* Kathy Bryson, MPH, MHS, international training director, SIFAT
Lodging Options:

o $15/night
o Dormitory accomodations
* Off-Campus: Hotels
o 10-35 miles away
o Lineville, Wedowee, Roanoke, Oxford/Anniston
Costs:
* Tuition, class materials and project fees are $690. A special
rate of $490 is offered for missionaries and international development
workers.
* Meals and snacks are $16 per day. This includes a full breakfast, lunch and
dinner in our cafeteria, as well as snacks each day.
