Honduras Veterinary Team Report (Summer 2007)
Composed By: Shawn
Terrell
During the summer of 2007, four veterinary teams worked under
my leadership, AHMEN, Cruzadas, Chimes, and Auburn Univeristy in
Honduras. Three of these teams concentrated efforts in the Limon-Tochomacho-Sico
domain, while the other worked in the Yorito vicinity. It was our
primary goal to vaccinate, de-worm, and provide standard veterinary
care to animals of the bovine, equine, canine, feline, porcine,
ovine, and caprine families. We vaccinated all healthy animals
for Rabies, and provided additional pertinent vaccines for individual
species as supplies were available. These included: 7-way Clostridia
for cattle, Encephalitis and Tetanus for horses, and Distemper-Parvo
for young dogs. We also were able to institute a parasite control
program in which we administered anti-parasiticides at the time
of treatment, and also distributed anti parasite medicines for
animal use throughout the year. Various conditions were treated
and a few minor surgeries were conducted when needed. Animal husbandry
education was offered on an individual basis and bibles were available
if anyone wanted one. Several of our teams made an intense effort
to bond with the people and learn of their culture through dance,
music, and communal living.
Listed below are the teams, their association, people involved,
